Hull Reinforcements

Postby JackJim10 » Wed Apr 25, 2012 6:36 pm

I have a deposit on a 1973 SJ24 and during the survey we discovered hull reinforcements on each side of the hull in the cockpit area. For example, in the cockpit locker on the port side there are three fiberglass stringers running from the top of the hull to the keel. Under the quarter berth there is a rectangular access opening that has been cut in and there are three stringers on this side as well. The current owner knows nothing about this??

Do any of you have this on your boats or have you heard of this on other SJ's?

Thanks

I don't have those on my boat but they sound like a good idea. Seems like the hull would be stronger and not too much heavier. The quarter berth on my SJ24 has storage under it but no obvious cut-outs. There is a light (window, porthole) on the starboard side of the cockpit above the quarter berth. By the way,
watch for leaks there...

Thanks for the reply. So far it sounds like it is something extra a prior owner did.

Is the boat you are looking at in the water? If so, did you get a chance to sail her??
